Duta Awam Foundation (called Duta Awam or YDA Solo) is a non profit organization which was born in March 1996, at Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Founded by activists and journalists, during the time Duta Awam be a resource for poor farmers to learning and doing advocacy through Advocacy Based on Participatory Monitoring.

What We Are Doing

Assist Indonesian farmers/peasants society to solve their problem, to secure their rights. Our strategies are to strengthening and empowering the farmers groups in and with:

  1. Education, research and organizing
  2. Advocacy
  3. Developing public opinion
  4. Based on data
  5. Organization/Institutional building

How We Are Doing

  • Early farmers involvement in program/project activities and also in evaluation
  • Using participatory methods, in researches, advocacy and media development
  • Integration in approaches such as field-based, community organizing, prospective stakeholders collaboration, dialogs, and campaign
  • Doing dialog mediation among farmers and their stakeholders (government, academician, private sector, non formal leaders, farmers’ network, and NGOs)
  • Public opinion development through media, press relationship, networking, and publishing which is address to the peoples, public institutions (local, national and international), and private sectors
  • Capacity building for farmers and their organization to increasing attitudes to advocate for farmers’ problems (personal or organizational), through farmers involvement in a whole program/project activities, train conceptual and strategic thinking, motivating farmers to speak at public space and to be farmer’s speaker
  • Capacity building for human resources and our institution to increasing program/project quality and services quality to the target groups.

The foundation declared its intention to focus and based on honesty, equality, participatory, accountability, transparency, justice, and peace.

Who Is Our Target

Our target is poor farmers in groups who live in the difficult situations and agro-environments (deforested agro-ecosystem, swamp agro-ecosystem, wet and highlands agro-ecosystem).

Where We Are Working

Since 1996, Duta Awam mainly works on five provinces in Indonesia which is Central Java, West Kalimantan, Riau, Bengkulu and South Kalimantan.
